PURPOSE

A life-changing journey

Maria, Viktor, and Sheriff traveled to Gambia with one common goal: to give as many children as possible access to eye tests and glasses, and thereby better opportunities to learn, thrive, and see a brighter future. It became a journey about much more than sight and glasses.
It was filled with powerful encounters, touching stories, and moments that left a deep impression. They met children with a zest for life and strength that made a lasting impression, and experienced firsthand how an eye test or a pair of glasses can be the beginning of new opportunities.

They visited a school for children and young people with autism and other special needs, as well as an orphanage and 4 regular public schools. Although the children came from different walks of life, they were all met with the same curiosity, warmth, and joy.
The children came from different walks of life and with varying needs, but they had one common challenge: limited access to eye tests and glasses. The visits were filled with warmth, curiosity, and unforgettable moments, which made a great impression and created memories for life.

We travelled home with lighter suitcases, but with full hearts. One thing is for sure, we'll be back.

That makes a difference

In collaboration with Maria, the SIEB Teknik team has developed an app that makes it possible to test children's eyesight quickly, simply, and with reasonable accuracy.
The app makes it possible to test children's vision locally and send the results securely to Maria in Denmark. Here, she can analyze data and adjust the correct glasses, which can be sent directly to those who need them.
This will make it even easier and more accessible to help children with vision challenges.

A dream come true

For Sheriff, the trip was the the culmination of 18 years of work to create better opportunities for children in Gambia.
Thanks to many generous people and companies, vision became reality.
We cannot change the lives of all children. But we can change the lives of some children. And with the right resources, dedicated people, and a helping hand, we can reach far more than we imagine.
